I am aware that most people completed this workout on Memorial Day weekend. However, today marks the ten year anniversary of the start of Operation Red Wings, the reconnaissance mission turned tragic. It is hard for me to believe that it has been ten years. On June 28th, 2005, Operation Red Wings launched. Three Navy SEALS, Michael Murphy, Matt Axelson, and Danny Dietz paid the ultimate sacrifice in the mountainous Kunar province of Northeastern Afghanistan. Members of the 75th Ranger Regiment scoured those mountains for weeks, eventually recovering the sole survivor, Marcus Luttrell as well as the bodies of his teammates. This is a somber anniversary for me personally. I for one will never forget. If you are so inclined to, here is the workout developed in honor of Lt. Michael Murphy. He often did this exact routine at the compound in Bagram Airfield in Bagram Afghanistan. He was the first recipient of the Medal of Honor since Master Sergeants Gordon and Shughart in October 1993. Lt. Murphy’s selfless actions ensured the survival of his teammate and cost him his life. Never forgotten.
